Madrid can also be considered the capital of shopping in Spain with its controversial view of big Shopping Centres like El Corte Inglés, the most important department store where you can find just about everything you could possibly want, from the rarest gourmet delicacy to the latest designer outfit, standing next to a series of small family shops dealing with more specific products. It is recommended to pay a visit to la Galería del Prado and la Plaza de la Cortes for more fashionable clothing items. Most of the shops are concentrated around the Plaza Mayor, la Gran Vía and around la Puerta del Sol. A series of local markets are spread out throughout the city of Madrid, like El Rastro, the best-known street market, where you can wander around all the fascinating stalls every Sunday morning. It runs from la Plaza Mayor to the Puerta de Toledo in the district of La Latina. In Madrid shops normally stay open from 10 to 14 and from 17 to 22, Monday to Saturday, and the first Sunday of the month. You can use our search facility below to find shops by category, name and location.
